Cows and horses and alpaca, OH MY!

Hola mis amigos!

This is the first shot I´ve had at the internet since being here. We have an internet place right next to our hostel, but we never have any time to come down here, except in the early morning. And if you know me... half hour more of sleep or time on the internet....? Clearly there is a right and wrong answer there.

Everything is going well. The food here is perfect for my weak stomach. Mostly stews and rice. Some of the most amazing food I´ve ever eaten, and I will be attempting them when I get home. Today we ate cuy (guinea pig) and alpaca with lunch. I also bought coca leaves (what cocaine is made out of) to chew. It isn´t bad, it just acts like caffeine. But they tasted gross. We do drink mate de coca here with almost every meal (Chris, you´d be so proud! Although, no gourd or bombilla is involved, nor have I seen any for purchase or use around here).

Most every day is structered as such:
Breakfast at the local church that kind of sponsors us with a location to eat/meet and cooks, and some of the young adults are our translators (Maya, Lisi, and Uri). Then some quiet time where I sit on the top floor of the church/school without a roof. Then we head out usually for door to door ministry. Talking to people about their lives and asking them about their beliefs (sorry uber-non religious friends, but that is what I´m here for). I have taken head of the prayer team. Each day we send out 3 teams because we have 3 translators and then a fourth to just pray and walk and talk to people as much as possible (with our limited Spanish). After lunch back at the church we go to a village called Tipon, about 20 minutes drive to the East. There we have vacation Bible school (VBS) for about 50-70 kids in the middle of a soccer field. There are constantly cows, horses and dogs running past and the kids are insane, but a lot of fun.

More stories and pictures to come, I just wanted to give a general update.

Tomorrow we head to a village 3 hours away in the ¨highland¨area of Peru. It should be interesting as we´ll be gone all day, then heading back for dinner and a youth event (highschool - 25 ish) at the church that night.

I´ll probably see most of you before I can post again. But I´m going to try to post about this trip one day at a time when I get back so you can read about everything.

Hasta lluego.

(note, the title has nothing to do with this post, i´m just tired and crazy, and like Heather, one of the girls in my group says: you are one of the weirdest persons I´ve ever met)

Here We Go

Tomorrow I leave for San Jose. We'll be crashing at Ben's parents house for the night, then leaving in the wee hours of the morning for SF airport. Then 14 (? I think) long hours of flight. We'll be sleeping a few hours in the airport in Lima, then heading out for Cusco, Peru, our final destination.

Prep: Today I went to Costco with Hanna, one of the girls on the trip. We bought a bunch of food for snacks and I packed them up. I filled those bags up so much, we'll be feasting on the plane!

I'm going to post on here as much as possible.
Thanks for reading and have a great week! (esp those of you on spring break)
